A Deaf-led creative platform for storytelling, art, and access

I Can’t Hear You is a Deaf-led creative education platform using visual storytelling, art, and accessible media to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HoH) children and youth. Through illustration, video, and community-based learning, the platform centers Deaf lived experience and transforms it into connection, humour, creativity, and pride.

Meet Poofy

Poofy is the heart of the platform, a character and educational art brand that communicates through gesture, emotion, texture, and play rather than sound. Poofy exists to help D/HoH kids see themselves reflected in stories and to remind them that communication comes in many forms.

Expression over sound. Play over limitations. The way it should be.

● Housing & Dining

Dining Hall

Mealtimes at Camp Bennie are fresh, flexible, and full of flavor. Our buffet-style setup means campers can mix and match favorites, from baked (never fried) classics to made-from-scratch comfort food. Whenever possible, we source ingredients from a local farm, and there’s always fresh fruit ready to grab.

Crowd-pleasers include grilled cheese with tomato soup, spaghetti and meatballs, Korean BBQ beef with rice, and tacos loaded with beans, sweet potatoes, and chicken. We’re a nut-free camp, with gluten-free and dairy-free options at every meal—so everyone leaves happy and full.

● Health & Safety

Health Center

Our fully-equipped health center sits right at the heart of camp, staffed 24/7 by warm, knowledgeable registered nurses. From bug bites to the common cold, they’re here to keep campers feeling their best. We safely store and dispense all camper medications, and for anything beyond routine care, a hospital is just a short drive away.

● Free Time

Activities

Life at Camp Bennie doesn’t stop when class is over. Afternoons might mean paddling across the lake in a kayak, hiking wooded trails, or joining a game of soccer on the field. Evenings bring campfires under the stars, movie nights, and the kind of easy laughter that comes with being outdoors together. These moments balance the creative work in the studios, giving campers a full summer of adventure, connection, and play.
